Coco McKay is our February, 2023 Rotary Student of the Month!

Coco (Caroline) is involved in the yearbook committee at BHS, serves as the Vice President of Partners Club, and is a peer tutor for Bozeman High students. Coco played basketball her freshman year, and now manages the team. She plays varsity lacrosse for Bozeman Lacrosse. She was awarded Montana’s 2nd team all state attack during her sophomore year.

Coco is a unified partner for the Special Olympics. She participates in basketball, bowling, soccer, and bocce with the Special Olympics program. She also volunteers and sings at a retirement home near her house.

She has taken 6 AP classes at BHS, including English. She loves English because it is her favorite way of expressing her ideas and it helps her gain a deeper understanding of the world.

Coco is most proud of her work with the Special Olympics. She states, “I feel like I can truly make a difference in that community of students… getting to know the people on these teams has given me a new perspective on hanging out with people who think and learn differently than me which has taught me patience and compassion. I have developed leadership skills through this because it gives me a place where it is my responsibility to provide a safe and fun place for other students. I have learned so much from the special education students and hope they have gotten something out of our time together too.”

Coco is not entirely sure of her future, but plans to study English and journalism wherever she ends up. She is considering schools in California as well as Clemson and Boulder for college. After college she hopes to go to medical school and become a medical worker.

Coco says, “I have always loved working with people and taking on leadership roles both in small, and large ways. Giving back to my community and being there for my peers who need me is something I take pride in and a role I do not take lightly.”
