The Photonics and Laser Technology Program at MSU
Mr. Berg is currently the Program Director for the Photonics and Laser Technology program at Gallatin College – MSU. Trent is the President of the Montana Photonics Industry Alliance (MPIA), a role which he assumed in January of 2019. Trent joined Gallatin College – MSU in 2016 after working in the Photonics industry in the Gallatin Valley for 12 years. Trent helped co-found Blackmore Sensors and Analytics in 2016 and was also instrumental in the growth of several Photonics companies in the valley including S2 Corporation (2004-2008) and Bridger Photonics (2008-2015). In his industry career, Trent has 17+ years of experience in the fields of lidar, remote sensing, nonlinear optics, laser development, optical engineering, systems engineering, prototype development, laser stabilization, digital signal processing, software / algorithm development, rapid prototyping, and technical program management. Trent has several publications and patents in the fields of lidar and optical remote sensing.
Trent has a BS in Computer Science and a MS in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University.
Trent is a native Montanan and is married with 3 kids. Trent enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, and supporting the Bobcats in any way possible.
