Orion Walker

Orion wants to be the kind of person people feel comfortable around. “I would like for this world to be a better place for my having been in it.” Orion is described by his friends as competent, intellectually minded, and even keeled.
Orion is a musician and has served as a section leader for the low woodwinds in the BHS Marching Band. He is also involved in Martial Arts of many forms including Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Songnahm Taekwondo. Orion achieved a ranking of first degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Orion is a scientist and involved in the NASA HUNCH (Highschoolers United with NASA to Create Hardware) program. Orion states “I worked on a prototype vacuum that can function on the ISS (International Space Station), as well as designing a lunar airlock for NASA’s next lunar mission. During these projects I worked closely with the Johnson Space Center on the Moon to Mars Mission.” Orion also serves as a Team Leader for Vex Robotics. He served as a team leader and is proud that his team won multiple awards including Judge’s Choice Awards, Excellence Awards, and the Design Awards. Orion also served as a Montana Aerospace Scholar. In this role, Orion worked with a team of scholars from around the state to build a mission plan that could be used to launch a manned mission from the planned Gateway space station to Mars and return to earth. Orion shared his passion with younger students when he was a counselor for the STEAM Ready STEM Camp for local middle schoolers.
Orion is in the National Honor Society and has completed the Impromptu division of Speech and Debate. He also serves as the District Governor of the Montana District of Key Club.
Orion is most proud of his family for sticking together and supporting each other in times of struggle. Orion plans to attend college and earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
