Audrey Schaub

Audrey has traveled the world. She has visited Tanzania (South Africa) twice. She first volunteered on the Montana Futbol Foundation trip to Tanzania, where they hosted soccer clinics and worked on field and school improvements. She returned to Tanzania a few summers later as a volunteer on an Immersion trip where she worked on recovery with children who had just had major surgeries, such as cleft palate, club foot, and fluorosis.
Audrey also completed a semester abroad in Switzerland. She maintained a load of rigorous AP and college-level courses, and a challenging schedule. As Audrey reflects on her experience, she says, “The motivation and love for education and being challenged there helped me continue to push myself when I returned to BHS.”
Audrey is a Big Sky ski instructor. She teaches 2-7-year-olds and loves going through the experience with them, sharing the joy of skiing, and trying to give them an incredible experience in the amazing mountains we get to call home. Audrey states, “ I grew up being taught by my dad and sister. It was and continues to be meaningful to have someone to watch and look up to, so I try to be that person for these kids and support them in what can be a new, scary environment, but I try to have them leave remembering the laughs, their strength, and progress.”
Audrey actively participates in healthcare-related activities, such as being the President of Bozeman’s Chapter of PERIOD. She helps organize events to raise awareness and combat stigma, as well as supply local businesses with menstrual products. She started her work on period poverty while serving as a global ambassador for WeDeliverPeriod. In that role, Audrey hosted drives and coordinated speakers within schools, and donated period products to the warming shelter in town. Audrey also serves as a peer educator at Bridgercare.
Audrey states, “ my interest in global affairs and human connection and justice led me to become one of 6 global ambassadors for Refugees In Schools, where I connected with refugees around the world and had conversations with them, as well as built a relationship with the mayor of Helena, who was a refugee from Liberia, in an effort to write and publish an article. I am now a member of their youth auxiliary board, where we are trying to raise awareness of Kafika House (a children’s rehabilitative surgery program in Tanzania) and the immersion trip opportunities through education and events in Bozeman and around the US.”
Audrey is described by others as dedicated, hardworking, and supportive. She pushes others to think deeper and more actively about our world. She is dedicated to work on causes that affect Bozeman and the broader country, and bring our community together to work through them. Audrey states, “ I will work hard and diligently on what is in front of me to reach an end goal or find ways to work around bumps in the road. I support others to continue actions like this, and also support them wherever they are. I am someone people can talk to and count on, and someone who fights for what they and others care about. “
Audrey is very passionate about healthcare. She was accepted into Harvard Summer School to take a college-level class on behavioral psychology. Biomed is Audrey’s favorite class at BHS. She says health care feels like a “cool mix” of human connection, solving problems, figuring out whys, and supporting others.
“I am most proud of my involvement in the community and how I have tried to take steps towards raising awareness on topics that often aren't discussed in small communities like ours. I believe that education is so important, and I have felt and seen the support and recognition people and I can get when topics are discussed that used to be whispered about, or involve their personal autonomy… through this work, I also hope I have inspired others to continue to speak out against issues that they deeply care about, like I have done throughout my time at BHS.”
Audrey aspires to college on the West Coast and some sort of medical school. She currently hopes to become a NICU nurse and study public health.
