Asa Hadley is our January, 2023 Rotary Student of the Month

Asa is a busy high schooler participating in Speech & Debate, Student Government, Marching Band and the Wind Ensemble. He is an active member of the National Honor Society.

Asa is the captain and state champion of Public Forum Debate. He placed at the National Tournament Elimination round. He served as debate captain over the past two seasons by assisting underclassmen members and coaching middle schoolers at Chief Joseph and Sacajawea.  Asa serves at Bozeman High School’s Student Body President and is the student representative at the Bozeman School Board monthly meetings.

Last summer, Asa worked as a researcher for metaLAB at Harvard University. He contributed to a project detailing the barriers that ex-incarcerated women face in re-entering society.  His drumline played at the Christmas Stroll, Bozeman Night Live talent shows, assemblies, and more.

Asa has taken 9 AP classes (five this year), maintained straight A's in all classes, scored 5 on all AP tests except for one, and scored a 34 on the ACT. His two favorite classes in high school have been AP World History and AP Calculus BC. He loves discovering new mathematical concepts and expanding the way  to see the world through the lens of math.

Asa is most proud of his involvement in Speech and Debate. After four years, he has gained a depth and diversity of knowledge and developed as a public speaker, researcher, and leader.

Asa will be attending Columbia University in New York City this fall. He hopes to major in History or Human Rights, with a minor in Math or Jazz Studies. Further down the road, he plans to continue his education at law school, and make a career out of fighting for social justice.

Asa states, “I'd like to thank the Sunrise Rotary Club for recognizing hard-working students all around the district. This is such a unique opportunity that I am very grateful for, and I hope that this program continues recognizing students into the future.”
