Rotary Fact of the Week -
The idea for Rotaract emerged in the mid-1960s, building on the success of Interact, Rotary's service program for young people, which was founded in 1962. Rotary members were looking for a way to promote Rotary to college students and other young adults who were over the Interact age limit. Rotaract was the answer. The idea became reality in January 1968 when Rotary approved the Rotaract proposal. Members of the Rotary Club of Charlotte-North, NC, had worked with local university students, and they seized the opportunity to sponsor a Rotaract Club. The first Rotaract club was certified by Rotary on March 13th, 1968 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. To read more, click here.

Sunrise Rotary members are preparing to continue providing necessary support to homeless kids in our school system at the end of this month. Instead of bringing physical food to our meetings, members can pledge funds to the school district homeless student department (through Anna Edwards) providing gift cards to area grocery stores. If you can help, ask our club Treasurer, Gene Gaines, to 'add it to your bill'.
The flowers and plants are in, the drip irrigation system is ready, more benches are built and timeline sign-posts are in place. The next 3 pavilion sections should be installed by mid September to complete the overall pavilion. Our joint-club dedication will then be on Saturday September 19, 2020 at 4:06 pm. County regulations will allow up to 50 people, socially-distanced for our safety. A link will be placed here soon allowing you to sign-up for one of these open spaces. We also anticipate providing a live-streaming of the event through our club YouTube Channel - stay tuned for details
The Glen Lake committee also reports progress on the south entrance road being planned, with Northwestern Energy letting out bids soon to construct the access road off Manley (once the city finishes their work), and discussions are beginning on a master plan for the outflow stream from Glen Lake.
In order to be compliant of local health regulations and keep both homeowner and volunteers safe, the 2020 Fix-Up Festival event will morph into what we call the 'Roof Over Your Head' event. Instead of adopter teams working on the interiors of approved homes, our Fix-Up team is selecting specific projects that emphasize roof repairs as top priority. Watch for an update in coming weeks as to HOW MANY roofs will be repaired/replaced, and our generous sponsors who continue to fund our efforts. If you would like to provide funds to cover roofing materials and labor to complete a roof or two, email Cathi Simonson at cathi@csandcompany.com
