This Week - Club Picnic

This week we are having out annual club picnic at the East Gallatin Recreation Area starting at 5:47 PM. It should be an exciting night as we get a sneak peak on the planned improvements at the park. We look forward seeing you all at EGRA for some fun and fellowship.

Volunteers Needed to Lead Float and Fishing Trip for Auction Prize Winners

If you have a drift boat or raft and can lead 2 Rotary auction winners (husband and wife) on a 1/2-day pleasure float on the Madison or Yellowstone River on Monday August 22 (12pm to 5ish), or can take them the next day (Tuesday August 23) for a full-day fishing float trip to either river, please alert Greg Metzger or Mike Banville. These are the winners of our Arizona Rotary Club auction purchase who are coming to Bozeman. Thanks for Ryan Rickert for providing his apartment for their stay.

12 Homes Selected for This Year's Fix-Up Festival

The Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Fix-Up Festival Committee has selected 12 qualified homes for this year's Fix-Up Festival. After receiving a record number of applications, the committee narrowed down the selections based on scope of work and need to find 12 projects that will make an impact on our local community. Of the 12 homes, 6 are located in Belgrade and 6 are located in Bozeman. The Fix-Up Festival will be held on October 1st and with over 100+ volunteers and laborers to provide a helpful hand to neighbors in need.

Welcome to Scott Warwood

We'd like to send out a warm welcome to our newest Bozeman Sunrise Rotary member Scott Warwood of Door Tech, Inc.

Cale Josephs recently returned from Taiwan after spending a year in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Here are a few thoughts from Cale's experience.

Board Member Message - August 2016

Greetings Rotarians! President Roger has asked that members of the Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Board compose monthly notes to the club and I was lucky enough to be selected to write the August 2016 installment.

As your Club Secretary, my duties include maintaining accurate membership and attendance records along with board meeting minutes. I had the honor of performing these duties for 17 years at my previous Rotary club in Texas before moving to Bozeman. If there is anything that I can assist you with, don’t hesitate to ask—I’ll do my best to get an answer or solve your problem.

Since joining Sunrise Rotary in 2011, I have had the pleasure of serving as a project manager for Fix Up Festival (FUF) for four years (I was, after all, a Facilities Manager for 30 years at Texas Instruments before retiring!). I encourage each of you to get involved in FUF this year—it is very rewarding service to those in our community who are less fortunate. There are a number of different ways for you to help make FUF 2016 a success. If you need more inspiration to be convinced to help out, check out the videos under the “Press” tab at fixupfestival.com. Here are samples of the volunteer jobs on Fix Up Day (October 1, 2016):
Sign-in volunteer (morning of October 1) distributes snacks and T-shirts to volunteers at the FUF project location and ensures that volunteer paperwork is completed.
Job runner (morning and afternoon of October 1) acquires materials for the FUF project location that were not delivered from the store or are identified once the project is underway.
Debris removal (afternoon of October 1) hauls refuse from the FUF project location to designated FUF dumpsters.
Material pickup (afternoon of October 1) collects excess unused material from the FUF project location to the stores where it was purchased.
Once you have decided where you would like to help out, talk with Dr. James Bond to get your assignment—you will be happy that you did!

The Rotary International President’s theme this year is “Rotary Serving Humanity”. What better way to embrace this theme than to help make Fix Up Festival 2016 a success!

Let’s have a great August, Rotarians!
